Ørsted to hold community exhibition in Grimsby for world’s biggest offshore wind farms

The biggest offshore wind farms in the world are being built off the Yorkshire Coast; Hornsea Projects One and Two’s 339 turbines will be able to provide enough electricity for well over 2.3 million homes, when the wind farms become operational in 2020, and 2022 respectively

Ørsted, the developer constructing the giant Hornsea Projects, is holding an information event in Grimsby so that people can find out more about the projects. All are welcome on a drop in basis, and members of the project teams will be there to answer questions around the turbines, the consenting process and the projects themselves.

There will also be the opportunity to experience what it’s like to stand at the top of a wind turbine, through virtual reality headsets as well as other interactive demonstrations.

Natasha Nanuck, Senior Stakeholder Advisor at Ørsted, said: “These projects are phenomenal, they are the biggest offshore wind farms ever to be constructed and they are happening right here in the UK, which leads the world in offshore wind energy.

“We want people to have the opportunity to learn about these leading projects, meet the team and be proud of what is happening in their local area. If they have questions we’ll be happy to answer them, and I’m sure most will be fascinated by the sheer scale and technology used in the projects, and the community benefits these projects will bring to the region.”

Ørsted has already invested £8 billion in the UK and is set to invest a further £4bn by 2020.

The company, which has installed more offshore wind capacity than any other company in the world, has been active in Grimsby for eight years and following the recent inauguration of Race Bank, has three operational wind farms off the Yorkshire Coast*.

Grimsby and the Humber region are set to benefit in all sorts of ways as more offshore wind farms are constructed in the surrounding area; through local supplier contracts, local services such as hotels, taxis and restaurants and benefit funds available for community projects.

The exhibition will take place on Wednesday 11 July, from 11:00 – 18:30, at The Assembly Room in Grimsby Town Hall, and there is no requirement to book in advance.
